Golam Rabbani, deputy assistant director of Rapid Action Battalion-7, started the cases with Akbar Shah Police Station on Thursday night.

The five suspects caught in two separate raids were named in the cases filed under explosives, anti-terror and arms act, said RAB-7 Staff Officer ASP Soheil Mahmud.

The elite police unit caught three - Abujar Gifari, Noor-e-Alam and Iftesham Ahmed – after laying siege to a hideout in the port city’s Colonel Haat area on Thursday morning.

The raid was launched following the interrogation of two suspects - Tajul Islam and Nazimuddin – caught with weapons at the AK Khan area, RAB said.

The operation at the three-storey building led to the recovery of bomb-making materials, IEDs and ammunition.
