Chapainawabganj Superintendent of Police Mojahidul Islam appeared before the bench of justices Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Mohammad Ullah on Sunday and said he would not make such comments in the future.

The court accepted his apology and warned him.

On Nov 27, the court summoned SP Islam after his remarks during a programme on Chapainawabganj was reported in the media.

The court had then also issued a rule asking why legal proceedings would not be initiated against him.

The SP had been quoted in the media as saying in Bangla: “If you catch a bandit red-handed you must crush him to death. There will be a murder case, that’s true. We will deliver a final report within that month. That's my guarantee. If I give you my word, do you have anything to fear?”

He made the comments during his speech as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony at an eye camp at the Chanpainawabganj Eye Hospital on Nov 25.
