“I have asked Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka to call on the Prime Minister and express grave concern about the safety and wellbeing of the Hindus in Bangladesh,” India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in a tweet.

The Indian minister's post came while replying to a twitter post tagging her, which read, "There is large scale violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. Their houses and temples are being destroyed. Please do something.”

The Indian concern comes in the wake of recent incidents of violence against the Hindu population in Bangladesh.

On Oct 30, 15 temples and more than a hundred Hindu homes were looted and vandalised in Brahmanbarhia's Nasirnagar following a Facebook post allegedly ‘insulting Islam’.

Despite protests against the attacks across the country, several houses and a temple were torched early on Friday at Nasirnagar.

As many as 53 people have been arrested on charge of their alleged involvement in the attacks while allegations of administrative failure and police negligence are still swirling.

The ruling Awami League has suspended three of its local leaders over the incident.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has warned of stern actions against those involved.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Nasim, a member of the party's policymaking Presidium described the attack as a conspiracy against the government.

The BNP blamed the ruling party for the attacks and demanded the government to step down.
