The world's longest-reigning monarch, who was seen as head of an institution central to Thai identity and as a father-figure to the nation, died on Oct 13 in a hospital at the age of 88 years.

The foreign ministry said Ali signed the book on Tuesday expressing his shock on behalf of Bangladesh at the demise of the “most revered” monarch of the region.

“His Majesty King Bhumibol has always been held in the highest esteem in Bangladesh as a symbol of benevolence, dedication and humanitarianism,” he wrote.

“The example of his leadership, accomplishments and love for his people will remain as a lasting legacy not only for Thailand but also for the region.

“We, the people of Bangladesh, stand next to the friendly people of the Kingdom of Thailand during this trying times,” he wrote.

He also expressed deep sympathies for the members of the bereaved Royal family of Thailand.
