Five die, 18 others injured after bus overturns in Tangail

Five persons have died and at least 18 others injured after a Gazipur-bound bus overturned at Tangail's Kalihati Upazila.

Gorhai highway police's Elenga outpost In-Charge Sergeant Jahangir Alam said the accident happened in Pungli area on Dhaka-Tangail Highway around 5:30am.

He said the bus was carrying a group of readymade garments workers who were on their way to Gazipur's Safipur.

They were coming from Lalmonirhat's Patgram after spending the Eid holidays with their families.

"The vehicle overturned when the driver lost control. Three of the passengers died on the spot."

Twenty other wounded were being rushed to Tangail Medical College Hospital (TMCH) where one of them succumbed to the injuries, Jahangir said.

Another person died while undergoing treatment at the hospital later.

He identified the deceased as 'Asma', 40, 'Mominur', 41, 'Asadul', 15, 'Sumon', 35, and 'Ripon', 30.

Tangail's Deputy Commissioner Mahbub Hossain has announced that Tk 20,000 will be given as financial aid to families of each of the deceased and Tk 10,000 each to the families of the injured.
