Shootouts in Jessore leaves two killed

Shootouts in Jessore city have left two people dead early on Saturday.

Police said they are yet to identify the victims, but both appear to be in their twenties.

Kotowali police OC Elias Hossain said that a bullet-hit body was found near the basketball ground at the municipality park. "Locals said they had heard of firing. Police rushed to the spot and found a body that was taken to the hospital."

He said that a motorcycle without any license plate was found on the spot.

An hour later, police was informed of another incident of firing  near the Jessore-Benapole Highway.

"A body with gunshot wounds was found near a factory at Natunhat area," said the police officer.

Authorities at the Jessore General Hospital confirmed that two bodies were brought in by the police with bullet lodged in their heads.

Emergency department doctor Kajal Kanti Mallick said around 2:15am, body of a man  was brought in. " He had died just about an hour ago."

He said police brought in another body half an hour later. He said the person had died at least 45 minutes ago.
