Hours after a gunfight between law-enforcers and suspected militants in Kalyanpur early on Tuesday, police launched a 'block raid' at Mohammadpur from 1am on Wednesday.

The raid was called off around 5am, said Mohammadpur police OC Jamaluddin Mir.

He told bdnews24.com that they searched for suspected militants in the flats where groups of people, usually youths, share rooms at the Nabaday Housing.

OC Mir said that the locals cooperated with them during the raid.

Since the Gulshan and Sholokia attacks earlier this month, police have been conducting raids on suspected militant hideouts in the capital and elsewhere.

During one of these routine searches, a gunfight erupted early on Tuesday between police and suspected militants holed up in an apartment at Kalyanpur.

A SWAT team stormed the apartment early on Tuesday when nine suspected militants were gunned down, said police.

Police suspect the dead to be members of banned militant outfit Jamaa’tul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
