Dhaka cafe attackers used five pistols, two AK-22 rifles, police say

The militants who killed at least 22 in the attack on a cafe in Dhaka used five pistols and three AK-22 rifles, according to a case started by police.

They also found nine safety pins and suspect these are of the grenades used by the terrorists.

Three knives, a machete, a white handkerchief and around 300 rounds of bullet shells were also found on the premises of Holey Artisan Bakery and O’ Kictchen that was stormed by gunmen, beginning  a 12-hour siege on July 1.

A police official, requesting not to be named as he is not authorised to speak to the media, said the bloodied handkerchief with something written on it in black ink, was found on a dead body.

According to the case details, 13 persons were rescued in the army commandos in the morning on Saturday and 19 by police from around the cafe in the previous night.

Five of them were foreigners.

Police identified them as Pepetha Shayama Wijesekera and Harikesha Wijesekera from Sri Lanka, Argentinean-Italian Diego Rossini, Gian Galeazzo Boscheni from Italy, and Watanabe Tamoke from Japan.

Some of the Bangladeshi survivors are Mirza Hossain, 29, Delwar Hossain, 24, Akash Khan, 20, Shishir Sarker, 32, Dwin Islam Rakib, 22, Md Suhin, 28, Shahriar Ahmed, 24, KM Rezaul Islam, 22, Arif Mahmud Shawon, 23, Md Sabuj Hossain, 32, Rentu Kirtania, 16, Niamul Munshi, 39, and Md Liton Islam, 24.

The others are Samir Barhoi, 30, Imam Hossain Sabuj, 29, Abdul Momin, 30, Shishir Boiragi, 32, Md Bachchu, 32, Md Shaheen, 24, Shefa Karim, 13, Raihan Karim, 8, Satya Prakash, 38, Fayroz Mahin , 21, Tahana Tasmia, 21, Tahmid Hasib Khan, 22, Sharmina Karim, 33 and Abul Hasnat Rezaul Karim, 47.

The 22 persons killed in the attack include 17 foreigners and two policemen.

Six were killed in the raid to rescue the hostages. Five of them were militants, police said.
