Children's tiff at games leaves grandfathers dead in Bangladesh

A trifle of a fracas between two children at games has left their grandparents dead in Maddhapara of Goalgaon in Jamalpur Upazila.

The incident took place on Thursday evening, said the district’s Superintendent of Police Md Nizam.

He said a spat between ‘Shamim’, 7, and Manjurani, 8, over jackfruit seeds during play fireballed into a full-blown family feud. It claimed the lives of Shamim's grandfather Mandal Mia, 55, and Manjurani's grandfather Musharraf Hussain, 50.

SP Nizam said angry over the children fighting during the game, Musharaf and his family members mounted an attack on Mandal's family leaving the latter grievously injured. The counter assault from Mandal's family left Musharaf injured.

They were initially rushed to Bakshiganj health complex for treatment but when their conditions deteriorated, Mandal was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital while Musharraf was taken to Dhaka.

Mandal died about 2am on Friday while Musharraf died around 8 the same morning.

Police have detained four from the two families but refused to divulge their names.

Fishing feud leaves 2 dead

In a separate incident, Abdul Halim, 25, and Ansar Ali, 40, were killed and several others were injured after two groups clashed in Mymensingh over rights of fishing at a local water body.

The incident took place in Fulbaria Upazila on Friday, said OC Rifat Khan Rajib.

Relations had been sour between one Rustom Ali and Ansar Ali over rights of fishing.

Violence erupted on Friday when Ansar and his men went to catch fish at the disputed water body.

Rustom and his men rushed to stop them and this led to a violent skirmish.

No fewer than 97 people were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment while serval other injured were being treated in adjoining hospitals.

Police have detained at least three in connection with the violence.
