Colleagues, journalists, dignitaries pay last respects to Fahim Munaim

Colleagues and journalists have paid their last respects to Maasranga Television chief editor and CEO Syed Fahim Munaim, who passed away two days ago.

His remains were brought to the National Press Club in Dhaka around10:30am on Friday.

A Namaz-e-Janaza was held at the press club premises later.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu, Prime Minister’s Media Affairs Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Dhaka Univeristy Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Massranga Chairman Anjan Chowdhury and journalist leaders, among many others attended prayer.

Muhith spoke to Munaim’s grief-stricken family after the funeral prayers.

From the press club, Munaim’s body would be taken to Massranga office at Banani and later to their Gulshan residence, the family said.

After another Janaza at Gulshan’s Azad Mosque after the Jumah prayers, the body will be buried at the Banani Graveyard.

Munaim died at his home early on Wednesday after suffering a cardiac arrest. He is survived by his wife and three sons.

Born in 1954 to journalist Syed Nuruddin, who was the executive editor of ‘Daily Sangbad’ once, Munaim had a long career in news media.

He stepped into the media world by joining ‘Sangbad’ in 1982 after finishing his studies in management in the US.

After 'Sangbad', he had moved to 'Morning Sun' and the UNB news agency before becoming the managing editor of 'The Daily Star'.

It was during his stint at The Daily Star that he became press secretary to chief adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed in the 2007-2008 caretaker government.

He returned to the newspaper once the caretaker regime relinquished power.

In 1991, during the BNP regime, Fahim Munaim was made the press counsellor at the Bangladesh embassy in Japan.

He joined Maasranga Television as its chief executive officer when it was launched in 2010.

Munaim, a permanent member of the National Press Club, was fondly called ‘Tipu Bhai’ by his peers. He had attended many public and private events of bdnews24.com.
