The newspaper’s Executive Editor Swadesh Roy told bdnews24.com on Friday afternoon that the veteran journalist was admitted to Labaid Hospital in the capital on Thursday evening.

Quoting physicians, he said condition of Khan, who is kept in the coronary care unit (CCU), was improving.

“He may be shifted to cabin on Saturday,” Roy added.

Born on Apr 24, 1934 in Satkhira, Khan embarked upon a career in journalism in 1955 and became the news editor of Daily Sangbad in 1961.

He switched to Daily Pakistan three years later and was made editor of the government-run Dainik Bangla in 1972.

The 82-year-old journalist won Ekushey Padak this year.

Khan was the press secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman just after Bangladesh’s independence.

He also worked as the press secretary to military dictator HM Ershad and Shahabuddin Ahmed, the acting president during the 1990-1991 tenure of the interim government.

Khan was the first principal information officer and director general of Press Institute of Bangladesh.
