Responding to Awami League MP Pinu Khan’s query as to how the government plans to address the issue of inciting and misleading news, he said, “Steps have been taken to set up a Monitoring Centre to keep an eye on news published in the various mass media outlets.”

But he did not mention how the Centre would address the issue.

Inu added that an Online Media Assistance Policy is being devised to keep “necessary watch” on online newspapers.

Speaking of hate posts on social networking sites, the minister claimed that such “inciting posts aiming to create unrest” may have triggered some momentary unrest, but claimed that the government has managed to curb it with a strong hand.

He said that some blogs were attempting to create a rift between Hindus and Muslims, theists and atheists and were doing their best to injure religious sentiments.

He said that the government is on its way to make these accountable to law, besides devising other steps to tackle them.
