Patenga, Parki sea beaches get modern tourist facilities in one year

The Chittagong district administration will build, on 43 acres of land, infrastructures with modern facilities for tourists at the city’s Patenga and Parki sea beach.

Speaking at the ‘Beach Management Meeting’ at his office on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Mesbah Uddin said that 38 acres and 5 acres of Parki and Patenga, respectively, would be taken up for development in the next two months.

With modern infrastructure, including hotels and motels, the government will bring about key changes to both sea beaches within a year, the DC said.

According to DC Uddin, the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation will be implementing both projects. The Detailed Project Plan (DPP) will be composed as soon as the process of land acquisition is completed.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also very keen (about the projects)” he added.

At the meeting, Chittagong Tourist Police Superintendent Md Nowroj said that security on the beaches had been tightened following the formation of tourist police.”

He added that a Tourist Police Policy was on the way. Once it is finalized, tourist security will have more motion.

A representative of Patenga Sea Beach shopkeepers association pointed to the need forseveral facilities at the spot, including car parking and public toilets.
