The Awami League leader, who fought the elections independently, came under attack on Saturday allegedly by supporters of Nizam Uddin Hazari, the Awami League MP from an adjacent constituency.

“Nizam Hazari’s supporters wanted to kill me,” Ullah alleged.

The injured persons, including police Inspector Mesbah Uddin, have been admitted to Sonagazi Upazila Health Complex.

Sonagazi Police Station OC Humayun Kabir said a group of people started hurling brickbats at the MP’s car but his force soon brought the situation under control.

Supporters of Ullah and Hazari clashed several times after a faction of Awami League announced they would prevent Ullah from entering the district two years ago.
