68-year-old Dhirendra Nath Roy was shot on Monday night while returning home in the district’s Chirirbandar Upazila.

“Locals rushed him to the Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital, but the doctors immediately referred him to the Rangpur Medical College and Hospital,” said Chirirbandar OC Md Anisur Rahman.

Roy, who hails from the Upazila’s Nasharatpur, practised homeopathy at the local Ranirbandar market.

He was shot around 11.30pm on his way home, said OC Rahman.

Unidentified assailants shot him once before fleeing, he said adding they are yet to find out who might have been behind attack.
