Police to quiz three people arrested over Bogra Shia mosque attack

Two suspects in Thursday’s attack at a Shia mosque in Bogra’s Shibganj have been sent for interrogation to police custody for seven days.

The court of Bogra’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate has also remanded another suspect for five days.

Investigating officer Kamruzzaman said that the court authorised police to interrogate Anwar Hossain and ‘Jewel’ for seven days.

The third accused in the incident, Shamsul Alam, was sent to police custody for five days, said the Shibganj police inspector.

The three were arrested on Friday after the attack which left one dead.

Meanwhile, the Rapid Action Battalion detained three more persons in the early hours of Saturday over the attack, said Bogra-based RAB 12 chief Major AFM Azmal.

He did not provide any further details.

Locals said three assailants opened fire on a group of Shia Muslims in the midst of the evening prayers at the mosque.

The shooting left the mosque’s 70-year-old Muezzin, Moazzem Hossain dead and three others injured.

This was the second attack on the Shia minority in Bangladesh within a span of about a month. In an earlier attack, on the day of Ashura,a Shia procession in Old Dhaka was bombed.
