Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held a flag meeting with its Indian counterpart BSF on Thursday over the killings.

The deceased are cattle rustlers Abdul Khalek of Kolaroa Upazila and ‘Nazrul’ of Sadar Upazila.

BSF’s 76th Battalion personnel fired on them in the morning when they were smuggling cattle from India, BGB’s Satkhira Battalion Commander Lt Col Arman Hossain said.

They were killed on the spot.

Lt Col Arman said they had protested against the killing in the flag meeting.

“The BSF has expressed condolences and assured such incidents will not recur,” he said.

The Indian border guards have also agreed to hand over the bodies.

Killings along the India-Bangladesh border by the BSF have been a contentious bilateral issue.

Indian border guards have shown no sign of a let-up in the murder of Bangladeshi nationals even after New Delhi has promised time and again to stop the killings.
