Rabab Fatima to be Bangladesh’s next Ambassador to Japan, replacing Masud bin Momen

Rabab Fatima has been appointed Bangladesh’s next Ambassador to Japan. She is currently serving as a Director General in the East Asia & Pacific wing of the foreign ministry.

Fatima will be replacing Masud Bin Momen, who has been transferred to the Bangladesh Permanent Mission to UN in New York.

A career diplomat, Fatima belongs to the 1986 batch of BCS foreign affairs cadre.

She earlier served in different capacities in the Bangladesh Permanent Mission to UN in New York, the Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, the Permanent Mission to the UNOG in Geneva and the Embassy in Beijing.

She also worked with the Commonwealth Secretariat in London and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) from 2006-15 on lien.

The foreign ministry, in a statement said, as a diplomat she has “extensive experience and specialization in human rights and humanitarian issues”.

She received her master’s in international relations and diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University in the USA.
