Honorary Consul of Chile in Bangladesh Asif A. Chowdhury has been elected as a member of the World Federation of Consuls’ (FICAC) Board of Directors.

The FICAC brings together Consular Associations and Corps from across the world and gives consuls a forum to share their experiences.
The UN recognised this as an NGO with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) status. The Organization of American States and the European Union also recognise this as an NGO.
Chowdhury who is also the president of Consular Corps in Bangladesh secured the highest votes among the SAARC candidates to be elected for the next three years in the board of directors, says a statement.
He also holds the post of FICAC Chairman for the South Asia Region. He is a businessman.
The election was held during the 11th World Congress of Consuls ended on Sunday in Istanbul.
Prime Minister’s advisor for international affairs Gowher Rizvi attended the meeting and presented a keynote.
Honorary Consul of the Consulate of Poland in Dhaka Reshadur Rahman, and Honorary Consul of the Consulate of South Korea in Chittagong Mohammed Riyadh Ali have been awarded with ‘gold medal’ in the congress for their contribution in the Consular Corps of Bangladesh.
