Jamal Uddin, who was being treated at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU), died around 9:30am on Thursday, said DMCH police outpost’s Assistant Sub Inspector Sentu Chandra Das.

This takes the death toll in the bombings to two.

One person died when bombs were lobbed at the gathering of Shia Muslims outside the Hussaini Dalan in Old Dhaka on Oct 24.

Nearly 80 others were injured in the attack and more than 50 of them are still being treated at the DMCH.

This was the first ever attack on Shias in Bangladesh.

Three homemade bombs were hurled around 2am on Oct 24 when Shia Muslims were preparing for the ‘Tajia Procession’.

That was to mark the Ashura, which is observed to mourn the death Husain Ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

According to police, 115 people were injured in the bomb attacks. A teenage boy died of injuries from the blasts the same day at the DMCH.

The next day police started a case under the Anti Terrorism Act.

The government has dismissed reports of militant group Islamic State claiming responsibility for the bombings and said the attack was aimed at creating unrest.

Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque said the attack and the killing of an assistant sub-inspector in Dhaka on Oct 22 were linked.
