Three others were detained from the spot of the 'shootout' at the Sadar Upazila’s Gugra Union.

The RAB says all of them belonged to an ‘extremist outfit’, but did not spell at any details about it.

The dead have been identified as Akbar Hossain, member of Baghil Union Parishad and Monu Mia, said Tangail-based RAB’s Company Commander Md Mohiuddin Faruqi.

He said the three other ‘extremists’ have been taken to the Tangail Medical College and Hospital with bullet wounds.

RAB raided Gugra Union’s Maisha Village on a tip-off that extremists had gathered in the area, said RAB official Faruqi.

“Sensing that a raid was on, 10 to 12 extremists barged into one Shahadat Hossain’s house in the village and fired at RAB. That is when we retaliated,” he told bdnews24.com.

Hossain and Mia died on the spot during the 'shootout', said Faruqi, adding two firearms and ammunition were recovered from there.
