PM Hasina vows to make Bangladesh a ‘liveable’ place for future generations

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has promised to make Bangladesh a ‘liveable’ country for future generations.

She was speaking at a reception hosted by the Dhaka City Corporations on Monday to felicitate her on winning the UN’s highest environment award ‘Champions of the Earth’.

“Development will impact the environment; so, we must find a balance,” she said. “We’re working towards that end.”

The prime minister emphasised protection of the environment while pursuing development.

“We are doing everything possible to tackle natural calamities and to protect the environment without relying on anyone,” she said.

Low-lying Bangladesh is prone to natural disasters and faces dangers posed by climate change.
Hasina said her government initiated moves to make the country prosperous and improve people’s lives.
“I promise to make this country a ‘golden land’,” the prime minister said, adding, “We will leave behind a liveable country for our future generations.”
