Kunio was shot dead at Kaunia in Rangpur on Saturday morning.

The home minister at around 10pm told bdnews24.com: “I’ve enquired about Kunio. He was very friendly with Bengalis… lived with the villagers… He was a gentleman. There is no reason for killing him this way.”

Kunio was on his way to his grass farm when the shooting took place.

Kamal said the murders of Kunio and Italian Cesare Tavella in Dhaka on Sep 28 were linked.

“These aim at making the country unstable,” he said.

After the murder of Tavella, chiefs of police stations were asked to continuously communicate with the foreigners in their areas.

Asked if police in Rangpur communicated with Kunio, the minister said he was trying to ascertain it.
