Metropolitan Magistrate Tarek Moyeenul Islam Bhuiyan gave the order on Thursday after the case’s investigation officer, Lalbagh police Sub Inspector Mohammad Moniruzzaman, presented Mahmud in court seeking seven-day remand to grill him.
On Monday, another court granted police four days to question the former National Press Club president in connection with four other mayhem cases.
However, Mahmud’s counsel Faridul Islam said he was yet to be questioned in those cases lodged with Paltan and Motijheel police.
After his arrest on Aug 18, Mahmud was grilled for three days in connection with another mayhem case filed with Ramna Police.
Islam said the police had already moved a petition seeking a total of 40-day remand to question the BNP leader in connection with four cases related to violence unleashed during the 3-month agitation early this year.
The police’s remand plea would be heard on Sep 1.
A hearing would also be held on Sep 7 at Metropolitan Session Judges Court about scrapping of Mahmud’s bail plea in a case filed with Ramna police over an arson attack on a vehicle in Moghbazar.
