Police say the injured Sajal Hossain was a drug peddler with previous criminal records.

Panchbibi police OC Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal said that Hossain was accused in at least 20 cases filed with police stations across Joypurhat district.

Hossain and ‘Prince’ were arrested with yaba tablets from Panchbibi’s Radhanagar on Tuesday afternoon.

“Police along with Sajal (Hossain) went for a raid at night, when his accomplices fired at police, which led to the shootout. Sajal received gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire”, OC Kamal told bdnews24.com.

He was rushed to the Joypurhat hospital, but was later shifted to the Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital in Bogra.
