Authorities are yet to find their bodies.

“We heard that one Malay Chakma’s home was attacked deep into the night. Army personnel and police reached there Sunday morning,” Syed Tarikul Hasan, Superintendant of Police at Rangamati, said.

Ashutosh Talukdar aka Supriya, 50, and Aranya Larma, 10, were said to have died in the late-night firing.

“We heard about the deaths and came to site. We’re still looking for the dead bodies,” Kotwali Police Station OC Abdul Rashid told bdnews24.com from the spot.

While Talukdar was a former district-level leader of the Santu Larma-led Parbatya Chattagram Janasanghati Samiti, Aranya was the son of Malay’s niece Mini Chakma.

Aranya’s elder brother Chikkho Chakma, 13, and their mother have been injured in the firing, locals said, but were not sure if they were receiving treatment.

Aranya and Ashutosh died on the spot when Malay’s home in the Rangapani-Asambasti Lemuchharhi area was attacked around 2:30am, locals said.

Ashutosh was staying in Moloy’s house, they added.

Others, however, said they were not aware of any killing in the area.

“I’ve not heard of anyone dying in gunfire,” Sajib Chakma, a publication official of the PCJSS (Larma faction) told bdnews24.com.
