River police’s Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Mokhlesur Rahman said the incident took place around 12pm on Friday amid rush of home-bound passengers on waterways.
‘Harun’, 45, hailed from the city’s Keraniganj and earned his living by hawking at Sadarghat area.
Rahman said Harun jumped to get on board MV Bhola launch from MV Mahanagari near pontoon number 13 around noon but failed.
His body was recovered from Duburia River around 3:30pm.
Rahman said, “There is no sign of injury on his body. It seems that his death was caused by drowning.”
