He made the call on a visit to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases at Dhaka’s Mohakhali on Sunday.

The instruction came amid allegations that doctors do not stay at health facilities during Eid holidays.

Addressing the physicians, the minister said: “No negligence in service delivery to patients will be tolerated during Eid holidays. You have to ensure the presence of doctors in all hospitals.”

He cited past examples to say doctors, nurses, officials and employees take leave together during Eid and it hampered services to patients.

Nasim warned the doctors of tough punitive actions in case of any complaint against them.

The minister arrived at the institute at noon. He visited the outdoor and then the emergency department, bronchitis and asthma departments and different wards.

He asked the institute director to improve quality of services and make the hospital cleaner.
