Police detain six over daylight robbery at Dhaka’s Moghbazar

Police have detained six people suspecting their involvement in Tk 3.3 million robbery at Dhaka’s Moghbazar several weeks ago.

The detainees admitted that they were ‘members of an organised gang of robbers’, police claimed at a media briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) media office on Wednesday.
 
Md Omar Faruk alias Al Amin, Pabitra Samaddar, Md Raki, Zahirul Islam alias Zakir, Rifat Hossain and Zakir Hossain were picked up from Munshibarhi at Badda on Tuesday, DMP Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said.
 

He said a pistol, three bullets, a motorcycle and 300 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from them. 
On May 24, muggers shot at Aquamarine Distribution Limited’s Accountant Selim Akter and robbed him of more than Tk 3.3 million.
The incident occurred in front of the local branch of the BRAC Bank in broad daylight.
Joint Commissioner Islam  of Detective Branch said, “Besides the Moghbazar incident, the detained persons admitted to their involvement in robberies in different areas of the capital.”
“Among them, Omar Faruk and his associates shot dead a youth on May 8 at the Rampura TV Road,” he said.
