Four pedestrians killed in road crash in Pabna and B’baria

Four pedestrians have died in two separate accidents after heavy vehicles ran over them in Brahmanbaria Sadar and in Ataikula of Pabna.

Brahmanbaria traffic Police Inspector Md Bayezid said the accident took place on the Comilla-Sylhet highway around 8am on Wednesday.

The deceased are Yasin Mia, 45, and Saidur Rahman, 9. However, police could not provide any details immediately.

Quoting the witnesses, Inspector Bayezid said, in the morning a Comilla-bound truck lost control when it reached Radhika Bazar and ran over Saidur.

As Yasin came to rescue Saidur, he was also hit by the truck.

Both of them died on the spot.

The truck and its driver have been detained, said Bayezid.

Meanwhile, in Pabna two pedestrians were run over by a pick-up van near Ataikula area on Dhaka-Pabna highway on Wednesday morning.

Highway police’s SI Hasan Ali said the accident near Ataikula Thana has killed Abdur Rahman, 50, and Mohiul Mostofa Shadhu, 52.

He said while Rahman and Shadhu were walking down the road near Madhpur area in the morning, a Pabna-bound pick-up van hit them hard and left them severely injured. 

Locals carried the victims to Pabna Sadar Hospital, but both of them died on the way, said the SI.

Police have detained the vehicle but the driver and his assistant managed to flee.
