Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah said, “We can form a separate parliamentary caucus for working on nutrition.”
The Civil Society Alliance for Scaling Up Nutrition, which was formed in line with the global ‘1,000 days’ movement, organised the roundtable with the lawmakers on Sunday.
It was aimed at convincing MPs about the need of a multi-sectoral approach in the nutrition sector.
Studies show 1,000 days of a child beginning from the mother’s womb are crucial for its ultimate growth and development.
At least 17 MPs including Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, and Chief Whip ASM Feroz attended the roundtable.
The civil society group urged them to talk about nutrition in their monthly meetings at their constituencies.
The health minister said they would finalise the national nutrition policy soon.
He also sought exclusive time to discussion on health issues including nutrition in Parliament.
