The skirmish in front of Maloparha Police Outpost on Thursday night left at least five others injured.

Police say the dead, Jibon Sheikh, is a second-year BA student at Rajshahi City College.

The injured have been admitted to the Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.

Metropolitan detective police’s Assistant Commissioner Iftekhayer Alam said BCL leader ‘Tuhin’ and the college’s BCL unit chief ‘Robin’ were on bad terms with each other.

Robin called Tuhin in front of the college in the afternoon and beat him up.

Tuhin attacked Robin and his companions around 11pm with a group of youth.

“They fought pitched battles and fired at each other,” Alam said.

“Jibon Sheikh was killed on the spot after being hit by a bullet.”

It was not immediately clear which side he was on.
