Sutrapur police’s SI Hafizur Rahman said Monirul Islam, 22, was found in an injured condition in a house in Lalmohon Das Lane around 1am on Tuesday.

“Police and the locals took the injured Monirul to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where the doctors declared him dead.”

The accused, Wahid Hossain Jhottu, 40, is absconding since that night.

Jhottu’s family claimed that he is the joint general secretary of ruling Awami League’s ward no. 44.

However, police could not verify that immediately.

SI Rahman said Monirul and Jhottu lived in the same building on the Lalmohon Das lane.

“Following a feud over land, Jhottu hacked Monirul with sharp weapons. Locals informed the police who took the injured to the hospital,” said Rahman.

A case is yet to be filed in connection with the murder, said SI Rahman.
