The accident that happened at 1:15pm on Monday disrupted traffic in front of the Fine Arts building for about half an hour.

The angry students vandalised a few cars, said the witnesses. Later police and student leaders brought the situation under control.

Quoting the witnesses DU Proctor Amjad Ali said that Sakhawat Hossain Rony, first year student of Drawing and Painting department, met with an accident while crossing the road from Suhrawardy Udyan to Fine Arts building.

“A pick-up truck ran over his feet and smashed his toes. He was taken to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital immediately.

“Later he was brought back to University Medical Centre where he is undergoing treatment.”

Dean of Fine Arts Professor Nisar Hossain said, “In the past accidents have occurred in the university campus. Even though driving heavy vehicles inside the campus is prohibited, that happens.”
