Three arrested from Cox’s Bazaar over crimes against humanity

Police have arrested three persons from Cox’s Bazaar after the second International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) issued arrest warrant against 16 persons in the district over crimes against humanity committed during Liberation War.

Nurul Islam, 58, Osman Gani, 60, and Mohammad Jinnat Ali, 57, were arrested from their residences at Maheshkhali Upazila on Thursday, said Detective Branch Inspector Dewan Abul Hossain.
 
Earlier in the day, the ICT-2, led by Justice Obaidul Hassan, issued the arrest warrant against 16 people, taking cognisance of the charges levelled against them by the prosecution.
 
The prosecution, however, did not disclose the names of the other accused fearing that they could go into hiding.
  
Maheshkhali Police Station Inspector (investigations) Didarul Ferdous told bdnews24.com that several teams of police and detectives were raiding various areas in Maheshkhali to detain the others.
 
On Mar 1, the tribunal issued warrant of arrest against Salamat Ullah Khan, ‘Jakaria’ and Rashid Mia.
 
Khan and Mia were sent to jail after arrest while Jakaria is still absconding.
 
The latest warrant was issued based on information provided by them.
