A white tick mark within a blue circle can now be seen next to the name on the Facebook page of Bangladesh’s first internet newspaper –www.facebook.com/bdnews24– from Monday midnight.

The ‘verified’ sign appears every time the cursor is placed on the tick mark.

This amounts to Facebook’s recognition of the page as bdnews24.com’s official page, where latest news and images are posted and are followed by 4.03 million users.

According to Facebook, pages and profiles managed by proper authorities are shown ‘verified tick marks’ to indicate they are genuine.

bdnews24.com’s New Business and New Media chief Rashedul Ahsan said: “Readers and fans can now easily identify the Facebook page due to this recognition."

He said bdnews24.com Facebook page earned over 4 million ‘likes’ because of the massive reader interest it generates.

bdnews24.com tops the list of media outlets in Bangladesh in terms of unique visitors.

According to the latest information of Google Analytics, 5.92 million unique visitors browsed bdnews24.com website in the last 30 days.

The number was 6.25 million in April, when its page view was 96.9 million.

Unique visitor refers to the number of distinct individuals requesting pages from the website during a given period, regardless of how often they visit.

Unique visitor number is equivalent to the circulation of a printed newspaper.

bdnews24.com’s unique visitor number suggests its readers are several times more than the total number of readers of all newspapers published in Bangladesh.

BDNEWS24 began operations as a news agency in 2005, offering news to media houses through internet, unlike traditional news agencies, which would provide news through teleprinters.

In 2006, new owners took over the struggling agency and transformed into one of first internet newspapers of the world.

Rechristened bdnews24.com, the bilingual news publisher opened its contents to all readers free of cost at 12:01am on Oct 23, 2006.
