The bikers hit a bus head-on in Tarapur on Rajshahi-Natore Highway around 4:45pm on Friday, Puthia Police Station Inspector Hafizur Rahman Hafiz said.

The deceased were identified as Mehedi Hasan, 27, ‘Shubho’, 28, and ‘Sumon’, 30, from Natore’s Kandibhita.

Inspector Hafiz said police personnel of a check post in the area waved the trio to stop while they were on their way to Rajshahi.

Instead of stopping, they speeded up in a bid to flee. But the motorcycle hit an oncoming bus.

Shubho and Sumon died on the spot and doctors at Puthia Upazila Health Complex declared Mehedi brought dead when he was rushed there, Inspector Hafiz said.

Locals blocked the highway holding police responsible for the accident, he said.

They also attacked police during the protest, the police officer said.

Additional police went to the scene and charged batons to disperse the agitated locals around 6:15pm, he added.
