Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed, civil aviation and tourism Rashed Khan Menon, diplomats, political leaders, members of the civil society and media attended the reception at his residence.

The commerce minister toasted the Queen’s health while High Commissioner toasted President Md Abdul Hamid and people of Bangladesh along with all.

The Queen celebrates two birthdays each year. Her actual birthday is on Apr 21 that she spends privately while UK missions across the world celebrate the day.

“It’s a national day for the UK,” Gibson said. The Queen turned 89.

Her official birthday is on a Saturday in June.

Official celebrations to mark Sovereigns' birthday have often been held on a day other than the actual birthday, particularly when the actual birthday has not been in the summer.

The High Commissioner Gibson said the birthday celebration was for “everything that is good for the UK”.

“This is also everything which is good for the bilateral relations,” he told journalists standing in front of a Jaguar parked in front of his residence.

He said that was a symbol of great British engineering.
