In a statement, on Tuesday, he stressed that it was the “responsibility” of all political parties, as well as the law enforcement and election authorities, to ensure that the campaign is conducted without violence and intimidation.

He also said that he looked forward to the electorate having a “real democratic choice” on Apr 28 Dhaka and Chittagong city elections.

The statement came a day after BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade came under attack on Monday when she was campaigning for her party-endorsed Mayor candidate at Kawran Bazar.

BNP says activists of the ruling party launched the attack while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina dubbed it as ‘drama’ staged by her archrival Khaleda Zia.

Khaleda boycotted 2014 general elections but endorsed candidates for the Apr 28 city polls.
