University officials alleged that Awami League’s Rajshahi metropolitan unit General Secretary Dablu Sarker, accompanied by party leaders and activists, insulted Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin on Thursday noon at his office.

The incident happened a day after local ruling party MP insulted the vice chancellor over fining a private medical college.

An official requesting anonymity said 15-16 leaders, including Dablu, AL metropolitan unit Vice-President Shahadat Hossain and local Swechchhasebak League President Abdul Mumin and General Secretary Jedu Sarker entered the VC’s office without permission.

Dablu reminded Prof Mizanuddin of his request for recruiting Awami League leaders and activists in the university.

The vice-chancellor replied that the recruitment was going on as per rules.

At one stage, the official said, the leaders verbally abused several teachers, including pro-vice chancellor, prompting Prof Mizanuddin to decline any further discussions with them.

Later, the leaders left the office.

When asked, Dablu told bdnews24.com they went to discuss with Prof Mizanuddin several issues.

These included regularisation of the job of the sister of Bangladesh Chhatra League activist ‘Faruk murdered by Islami Chhatra Shibir’ and arrangements of exams for injured BCL activist ‘Masud’.

He said the situation got a ‘bit tense’ when a teacher pulled the arms of a leader.

When asked about the misbehaviour, Prof Mizanuddin skipped a direct answer.
