Joint Secretary General Mahbub Uddin Khokon spoke to reporters about the party’s stance over the polls after meeting Chairperson Khaleda Zia in her office on Wednesday.

“BNP is a party of the people. It is not afraid of any election,” he said.

He said the party would take the decision on the city corporation polls at an appropriate party forum.

“BNP will take any election as challenge,” Khokon said.

Earlier in the day, the Election Commission announced to hold the elections to the three city corporations in Dhaka and Chittagong on Apr 28.

Aspirants will have to file nominations by Mar 28. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on Apr 1 and 2.

A candidate would be able to withdraw his papers until Apr 9.

The schedule has been announced amidst BNP’s indefinite blockade and shutdowns. The BNP is seeking a snap general election under a ‘neutral’ caretaker government.

It boycotted the the last general election supervised by ruling Awami League.
