Two more arson victims die in Chapainawabganj and Chittagong

Two more people, burned in arson attacks during the BNP’s blockade and shutdown, have died at hospitals in Chapainawabganj and Chittagong.

One of them, Ranjit Nath, 37, who suffered severe burns in a firebombing at Chittagong’s Hathazari one night ago, succumbed to his injuries around Thursday midnight at the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).

CMCH burns unit’s Registrar Dr Swarup Chakrabarty told bdnews24.com that Nath was moved to the ICU earlier in the morning when his conditions deteriorated. He died there.

The driver of the auto-rickshaw Nath was riding also suffered burns when the vehicle came under attack on the Chittagong-Khagrhachharhi road at Mirzapur Wednesday night.

The driver was also admitted to the CMCH.

In the other incident, one Selim Sheikh, who suffered 50 percent burns in a petrol bomb attack, died at the Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital burns unit around 6pm on Thursday.

Hospital Director Brig Gen AKM Nasir Uddin said the 40-year-old’s windpipe had been badly damaged.

Sheikh, a truck driver’s assistant, was returning to Shibganj when suspected blockade campaigners attacked the potato-laden truck with petrol bombs at Chapainawabganj’s Gomostapur.

Truck driver Firoz Uddin, 30, and cargo owner Shaheb Ali, 40, were also burnt.

Over a hundred people have been killed during the BNP-led 20-Party alliance’s agitation in the past two months, mostly in firebombing across Bangladesh.
