Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said Sunday’s tests would now be held on Mar 14.

However, a fresh date for Tuesday’s tests has not yet been announced.

Nahid told a press briefing on Saturday that would be announced later.

The tests which were to be held on Feb 12 will now be held from 9am on Mar 13.

The latest decision to reschedule the tests follows BNP-led 20 party alliance's decision to call another 72-hour nationwide shutdown from Sunday.

So far, the government has deferred 12 exams and rescheduled them due to strikes.

The BNP-led 20-Party alliance has been calling the shutdowns since the beginning of February along with its nationwide transport blockade that started from Jan 5.

The coalition is agitating for a snap general election under a nonpartisan administration.

The shutdowns have been enforced on every working day forcing the government to hold SSC tests only on weekly holidays – Friday andSaturday.

The exams have been held on only seven days so far this year.

Just like the past four weeks, a statement, purportedly from the BNP, on Friday had announced the 72-hour shutdown starting fromSunday.

Around 1.5 million students from 27,808 institutions are taking this year’s SSC exams.

The BNP-led coalition has been paying no heed to appeals from the government, teachers, students and parents to keep the SSC tests out of the purview of the shutdowns and blockade.

Public tests in the last two years were also hampered by the agitations of the BNP and its allies.
