Civil Aviation Authority staff held with gold

Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have detained an employee of the Civil Aviation Authority with gold worth Tk 20 million.

Mohammad Hafizur Rahman, arrested on Saturday afternoon, is a boarding bridge operator of the Civil Aviation Authority, Customs Intelligence Department Joint Commissioner Kazi Mohammad Ziauddin said.

He said six gold bars weighing 4.2 kilograms were seized from Hafizur. Four bars weighed one kilogram each and two were of 100 grams, Ziauddin added.

The gold bars were smuggled in from Thailand, he said.

The estimated value of the gold was Tk 20 million, Ziauddin said.

Legal steps against Hafizur were underway, he added.
