“They will stay for two days in Kolkata. Besides his meeting with the West Bengal governor, the president and his team will also visit Shantiniketan,” a government official privy to the president’s schedules told bdnews24.com.

On Tuesday at 8:30pm, Abdul Hamid will leave for Dhaka from Kolkata.

Meanwhile, India has reiterated its commitment to implement the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) and sign the Teesta water-sharing with Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh president got these assurances from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj during meetings with them.

India’s cabinet is likely to pass the land agreement without any further delay so that it is passed by the Parliament before the end of the ongoing winter session.

Government sources said Modi and Hamid discussed the importance of economic cooperation and improved connectivity between India and Bangladesh for further development and progress.

They agreed that India and Bangladesh should take the lead in fostering closer cooperation in the region.

Prime Minister Modi lauded President Hamid's contribution to Bangladesh`s War of Liberation and said it was a privilege to welcome a "Muktijoddha" (freedom fighter) in the week when Bangladesh celebrates the success of its independence campaign.
