Actress Happy now says she won’t marry cricketer Rubel

Actress Naznin Akter Happy has backed out of her earlier offer of compromise and now says she will not marry cricketer Rubel Hossain.

She told bdnews24.com on Tuesday: “Rubel has cheated me in the name of a relationship. Rubel lied to me and exploited me taking advantage of my innocence. It’s not possible (for me) to marry this cheat.”

Happy said she would continue the legal battle that she initiated against the cricketer on Saturday by filing a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with the Mirpur Police.

Earlier, she had set marriage as a condition for Rubel to avoid further legal complications.

“I still love Rubel. Everything will be alright if we can reach an understanding. The case will be withdrawn if he marries me,” she had told bdnews24.com on Sunday night.

Happy, who played the lead female role in a recent Bangla movie, said on Tuesday she did not intend to unnecessarily harass the national team pacer.

“My aim is not to harass Rubel. I myself decided to file the suit without anyone’s instigation and suggestion,” she added.

Happy said she already submitted ‘evidence’ of her intimate relations with Rubel to Mirpur police.

Unhappy over the news of Rubel’s bail from the High Court, she now accuses the cricketer of torturing her physically.

She claimed that Rubel threatened to file a defamation suit against her.

Happy said: “Rubel told me that I could do nothing to him by filing cases. He has good terms with Sheikh Helal and Andalib Rahman Partha.

“He will have the case withdrawn by them. He will even approach the son of the prime minister, if needed.”

“I don’t know whether Rubel is in really good terms with them.”

She alleged in the case that the pacer had promised to marry her and the two shared intimate relations for nine months after having got in touch through Facebook.

Happy further said she frequented Rubel's apartment near the Commerce College at Mirpur.

“I also got acquainted with Rubel’s family. His parents knew me. Rubel introduced me as his very good friend to them.

“He told me that he would convince his parents regarding our marriage. But he didn’t do that. I broached the matter on several occasions, but he avoided it on different pretexts.”

Happy claimed that she last went to Rubel’s house on Dec 3. “I found Rubel in an intimate state with two unknown girls in the room. At one stage of quarrel over the matter, Rubel assaulted me. I was injured.”

She said the cricketer tried to broker a compromise when she tried to sue him over the assault.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shafiul Islam, Nasir Hossain, Naeem Islam and two other junior cricketers had tried to amicably settle the matter, she added.

“Mashrafe Bhai asked us to settle the matter. He told Rubel that the matter reached such a stage that it’s better for him to get married. The others too tried to convince Rubel.”

The actress claimed that Rubel promised her to ‘consider the matter’, but later he changed his mind and said he could not marry her.

Studying BBA at a private university, Happy was taken to police's Victim Support Centre after she filed the complaint on Saturday. She returned home after a medical test on Sunday.

The High Court granted the cricketer a four-week anticipatory bail on Monday afternoon in the case.

Rubel’s lawyers said a day before Happy filed the case, the cricketer registered a general diary with police accusing her of blackmailing him.

The cricketer said he would soon “answer all queries” convening a press conference.

The row between the cricketer and actress took the social media by storm.

Rubel, who will turn 25 next month, hails from Bagerhat.

He has been a regular with the national team and has bagged 69 wickets in 53 ODIs and 32 wickets in 22 Tests.
