9 injured in Dhaka accident

At least nine people were injured when a bus lost control at the airport road in Dhaka’s Kurmitola.

The injured persons could not be identified immediately. They were rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital.

Khilkhet Police OC Nazrul Islam said the accident took place at the Shawra Bazar foot-over bridge area in front of the Kurmitola Golf Club around Friday midnight.

“A Gazipur-bound Balaka Paribahan bus lost control and hit a pillar and island under the Shawra Bazar foot-over bridge. The roof of the bus went flying to hit a private car on the side.”

“The injured passengers of the bus and driver of the car were immediately rescued and taken to the Kurmitola General Hospital.”
OC Nazrul said doctors at the hospital declared the hospitalised injured to be out of danger. The rest were treated with first aid.
Vehicular movement towards the airport was halted for half an hour due to the accident. However, situation returned to normal once police removed the vehicles involved in the accident with a wrecker.
