In a statement, NDF Chairman Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu announced the programme demanding Siddique's arrest by Monday.

"A countrywide strike will be enforced tomorrow if Latif Siddique is not arrested by today (Monday)," NDF's member secretary Alamgir Majumder told bdnews24.com on Monday.

Former telecoms minister Siddique, axed from Cabinet as well as Awami League for saying he was opposed to Hajj, returned home by an Air India flight on Sunday night.

He has been accused of hurting religious sentiments in a flurry of cases filed across the country after he made the remark in a discussion in New York in September. There are also warrants out for his arrest.
