With October about to end, a thin veil of fog is beginning to envelop cities and villages with a nip in the air ushering winter vegetables.

The lowest temperature recorded on Tuesday was 19.4 degrees Celsius in Dinajpur.

At present, night temperatures are dropping while day temperatures are rising, said a Met office official.

But winter will truly set in when the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures is reduced.

There were light showers in Dhaka, Faridpur, Mongla, Syedpur, Hatia, Barisal, Khepuparha and Sylhet on Tuesday.

Rain has been forecast in several parts of Bangladesh on Wednesday as well.

The day temperature across the country will remain virtually unchanged, while the night temperature may see a slight drop.

The Met official, who declined to be named, said the weather iswas cool because it was still raining. Winter has not begun yet. But it might arrive a bit early this year.

Meanwhile, winter vegetables have already reached the market. They are still rather costly but prices are expected to come down once supply picks up.

A two-month forecast by the Met office says night temperatures will keep dropping in November and December.

A mild cold wave, with temperature ranging from 6 to 10 degrees Celsius, is expected to sweep the north-east and central parts towards the end of December.

There might be medium to heavy fog in the northern parts and river estuaries and light to medium fog in other parts in the early morning hours during the dry days towards the end of December.
