The driver was held responsible for the accident by the committee investigating the bus crash.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday said the driver was currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. He, however, could not to give the driver’s name.

“Both the drivers were said to have died, but one of them is still alive and undergoing treatment at a hospital,” Quader told a press conference in Dhaka after receiving the report from the investigation committee set up by the district administration.

The report held as responsible for the accident the owners, drivers and helpers of the three buses involved in the crash .

The accident took place on Monday when the Rajshahi-bound bus of Keya Paribahan collided with Gurudaspur-bound bus of Othoi Paribahan at Borhaigram.

“Keya Paribahan’s driver was driving recklessly. The collision occurred when the driver tried to overtake a truck without paying attention to the road and traffic movement. The overtaking was the main reason for the accident” said Quader.

The report said the death toll went up as another bus of Hanif Paribahan ran over the passengers already injured by the crash.

Quader said the fitness certificate and route permit of the Keya Paribahan bus, having registration number Dhaka Metro B-11-5656, were not up-to-date, while the registration number of the Othoi Paribahan bus, Sylhet B-11-6384, was fake and they each were carrying 46 to 47 passengers on the rooftops illegally.
